About Pepperdine University

The University was founded as a Christian liberal arts college, in 1937, by George Pepperdine. In 1971, the university status was granted to Pepperdine, when the business department and the education department became separate schools, and the School of Law was added.

The original campus was relocated in 1972 in Malibu due to the fact that the South Central Los Angeles area, the location of the original campus of the university, was increasingly being crime-ridden and the campus faced the threat of being burned down by activists, in 1969.

The sports teams that are representing the university in the West Coast Conference are known as the Waves, the university being the only member of the Conference that is not Roman Catholic.
